John F Hunt has landed the deal to kick-start work on a £150m plan to overhaul the 125 Shaftesbury Avenue building in Central London.

The Enquirer understands the specialist has now started on a six-month contract to  strip-out and declad the entire structure.

Developers Edge and Mitsubishi Estate secured planning earlier this year to transform a 1980s block into 250,000 sq ft of workspace with a new-look entrance on Charing Cross Road and rooftop terraces.

The project, known as EDGE Shaftesbury, will retain around 75% of the existing structure to cut embodied carbon and is targeting BREEAM Excellent as part of Edge’s push for sustainable design.

The project will increase the building’s height from 11 to 13 floors.

A main contractor for the job is due to be announced shortly with the race now understood to be down to Bovis and Sir Robert McAlpine.
