Multi-room developer and builder Watkin Jones has secured planning approval for a 322-bed student accommodation block in Bristol’s Temple Quarter.
The scheme – named The Ionic – will sit within the Silverthorne Lane Conservation Area and forms part of the city’s flagship regeneration around Temple Meads and the University of Bristol’s new campus.
It marks the developer’s third scheme in Temple Quarter, as Bristol battles a chronic shortage of student housing.
The Ionic will be delivered in time for the 2028/29 academic year and feature ground-floor commercial space.
The design’s green features include air-source heat pumps, an electric heating system, and rooftop solar panels, with the ability to link into the future district heat network.
The building will be a short walk from Temple Meads station, bars and retail areas, and will provide residents with a range of shared social amenities.
Ben Wrighton, head of planning and development at Watkin Jones, said the project would help address Bristol’s housing crunch while supporting sustainability and placemaking goals.
