Billington Structures has strengthened its senior team with two new director appointments as it looks to new markets.

Severfield design director Ian Dawson has joined Billington as technical director after a 22-year career at the rival steelwork contractor.

Widely recognised as one of the leading engineering figures in the sector, Dawson has worked on landmark schemes including the Shard, Heron Tower, 22 Bishopsgate and Google’s KGX1 headquarters.

He is also a Fellow of both the Institution of Structural Engineers and the Institution of Civil Engineers.

At the same time, Jon Wright has been promoted to production director after 27 years with Billington.

He first joined as a fabrication apprentice in 1998 and has progressed through a variety of site and management roles.

Chief executive Mark Smith said Dawson’s appointment would strengthen the business as it targets new markets, while Wright’s track record of delivery and training made him the ideal candidate to lead the production team.
