Balfour Beatty has been named sole contractor for Rolls-Royce’s fissile construction framework, cementing its role as a key delivery partner on the expansion of the Raynesway site in Derby.
The framework covers the delivery of highly specialised nuclear licensed infrastructure to support Rolls-Royce’s production of fissile components for the Royal Navy’s submarine propulsion programme and the new AUKUS fleet.
Work will include new manufacturing and processing facilities inside the secure nuclear boundary, upgrades to existing plants, and major site-wide infrastructure enhancements to meet the UK’s toughest safety and security standards.
Balfour will bring in its ground engineering, M&E and nuclear expertise to deliver the package, building on its existing role as Rolls-Royce’s non-fissile construction partner, appointed last year to deliver new offices and site infrastructure.
Philip Hoare, Balfour Beatty group chief executive, said the deal was “a strong endorsement of our growing presence and capability in the UK defence market”, adding that it builds on the firm’s track record at Raynesway and wider delivery of complex, secure infrastructure.
