London developer Great Portland Estates has won planning for a major refurbishment of Whittington House, yo create 74,500 sq ft of premium HQ workspace in the West End.
Camden Council has resolved to grant consent for the eight-storey revamp, which will retain the Richard Seifert & Partners design while adding sustainable features, a rooftop terrace and a new pavilion overlooking the pedestrianised Alfred Place.
The project, due for completion in early 2027, will form part of GPE’s growing cluster of Grade A space around Tottenham Court Road — alongside the Gable Building, Courtyard Building and existing Alfred Place holdings — totalling around 220,000 sq ft.
Trevor Phyo, senior development manager at GPE, said: “Securing planning permission from Camden Council marks a significant milestone for this project. We’re proud to be breathing new life into this building, recognising its architectural heritage, and transforming it into a standout workplace that reflects the future of office design.”
