Morrison Construction has been lined up to deliver a major mountain bike innovation centre in the Scottish Borders after plans for the £19m scheme were submitted.

The Innerleithen facility will rise on the site of the old Caerlee Mill, following April’s green light to demolish the main building.

It forms part of the wider £350m Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal, backed by the UK and Scottish Governments.

Hub South East is acting as delivery partner with Morrison now confirmed as builder, pending planning approval.

Led by South of Scotland Enterprise, the project will include bike engineering workshops, brand experience spaces, teaching areas, offices, and event space. The scheme will also serve as a base for Edinburgh Napier University’s cycling research and academic programmes.

The UK Government is pumping £19m into the Innovation Centre and nearby Tweed Valley Trail Lab. Scotland Office Minister Kirsty McNeill said the project would help deliver “a decade of national renewal in our Plan for Change.”
