Robertson Construction North East has broken ground on a major new cultural and leisure venue in Redcar as part of the town’s wider regeneration drive.

The £12m project includes a reimagined library, indoor family attractions, and new public space linking the high street to the seafront.

It is one of the flagship projects under the £25m Redcar Town Deal aimed at reviving the struggling coastal town.

The former M&S and Goodwins buildings have already been demolished to clear the site, with the main build now underway.

Robertson is also currently redeveloping the nearby Grade II-listed Redcar Central Station into a mixed-use hub with retail and transport facilities.

Neil Kennedy, regional managing director at Robertson, said: “This development represents a significant regeneration opportunity for boosting the local economy, creating jobs and providing a welcoming space for the community.”

Redcar Town Deal chair Catherine Clennett said the new venue would act as a gateway from the beachfront to the high street, helping to draw more footfall and revitalise the town centre.
