{"id":1051,"date":"2018-12-03T08:54:09","date_gmt":"2018-12-03T08:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=1051"},"modified":"2018-12-03T08:54:09","modified_gmt":"2018-12-03T08:54:09","slug":"crossrail-sparks-left-in-dark-over-xmas-lay-offs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/crossrail-sparks-left-in-dark-over-xmas-lay-offs\/","title":{"rendered":"Crossrail sparks left in dark over Xmas lay-offs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Balfour Beatty electricians working on Crossrail&#8217;s Whitechapel Station project say they have been left in the dark about possible redundancies in the run-up to Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>In September around 130 Balfour Beatty electricians were put into 45-day consultation for major layoffs.<\/p>\n<p>This came as Balfour Beatty and the rest of the BBMV joint venture were in talks with Crossrail to release an extra \u00a320m to complete the station project.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"209475\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.faset.org.uk%2Fguidance-2%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CE_FASET-MPU_JULY18.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Since then extra cash plus a further \u00a34m have been agreed to be released by Crossrail and workers were told informally that most would not now be laid off.<\/p>\n<p>But the workforce on the job fears that redundancies could still go-ahead with only agency staff being kept on to finish the job in the New Year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"124439\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=+http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hudsoncontract.co.uk%2Felimination%3Futm_source%3DConEnq%26utm_medium%3DBanner%26utm_campaign%3DAut18%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hudson ConstructionEnquirerAdOct18.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Balfour Beatty has two key milestones to meet on the project, one in mid-January and the last in 22 March.<\/p>\n<p>One worker said: &#8220;One day we were told of wholesale redundancies, then in November its was rumoured 100 will be kept on, then we hear that 150 will be needed to complete the works.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But nobody from management will tell us exactly what is going on.
