Hitachi is considering scrapping plans to build its \u00a314bn Wylfa Newydd nuclear power plant in North Wales because of soaring costs<\/p>\n

The engineering giant’s board will meet this week to\u00a0discuss the increasing costs and further action on the Anglesey prpjects, according to reports in Japan.<\/p>\n

A decision to pull out of the North Wales\u00a0nuclear power station project would be a major blow to the Government, which hoped to build a next generation of reactors.<\/p>\n

Last month NuGen abandoned plans \u00a0to build a nuclear plant at Moorside, next to Sellafield.<\/p>\n

The decision would leave just Sellafield, Bradwell and Oldbury as pipeline schemes after Hinkley Point in Somerset.<\/p>\n

The decision would be a big blow to consultant Atkins which is delivering civil engineering design and KBR and Wood, both working up key elements of design<\/p>\n

Around 9,000 workers were expected to\u00a0 be involved in building two nuclear reactors on Anglesey.<\/p>\n
