{"id":1553,"date":"2018-12-18T23:23:20","date_gmt":"2018-12-18T23:23:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=1553"},"modified":"2018-12-18T23:23:20","modified_gmt":"2018-12-18T23:23:20","slug":"bakerhicks-to-direct-coventry-theatre-revamp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/bakerhicks-to-direct-coventry-theatre-revamp\/","title":{"rendered":"BakerHicks to direct Coventry theatre revamp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Multi-disciplinary design and engineering company BakerHicks will deliver a range of civil and structural engineering\u00a0solutions\u00a0over two phases\u00a0to support the regeneration of the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry next year.<\/p>\n<p>BakerHicks is working closely with architects Corstorphine &amp; Wright and consultants Tandem Projects to improve the existing theatre.<\/p>\n<p>Work will include the upgrade and refurbishment of the theatre\u2019s main auditorium, caf\u00e9, restaurant and front of house areas, to provide visitors with an improved experience and allow for the stage area to be more easily adapted for different performances.<\/p>\n<p>The design will also support the theatre\u2019s sustainability requirements, incorporating a number of highly sustainable features to improve the theatre\u2019s carbon footprint.<\/p>\n<p>Coventry will become the City of Culture in 2021 and is undergoing substantial regeneration.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Pinnegar, the lead civil and structural engineer on the project for BakerHicks, said: \u201cWorking safely and efficiently in the tight confines of an existing building where there is limited space will be a test for our teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe structural alterations being discussed will require an innovative approach and close consultation to deliver a result worthy of such an historic building.
