{"id":1825,"date":"2019-01-07T14:38:34","date_gmt":"2019-01-07T14:38:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=1825"},"modified":"2019-01-07T14:38:34","modified_gmt":"2019-01-07T14:38:34","slug":"lendlease-scoops-manchester-town-hall-330m-revamp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/lendlease-scoops-manchester-town-hall-330m-revamp\/","title":{"rendered":"Lendlease scoops Manchester town hall \u00a3330m revamp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lendlease has beaten rival Laing O&#8217;Rourke to deliver Manchester&#8217;s \u00a3330m Town Hall and Albert Square refurbishment programme.<\/p>\n<p>The construction contract is understood to be worth around \u00a3190m and will see the grade one-listed building fully restored along with extensive, improved public realm.<\/p>\n<p>Lendlease will be responsible for managing the project and procuring around 80 subcontracts ranging from\u00a0 \u00a310,000 \u2013 \u00a340m.<\/p>\n<p>Works will include restoring the Great Hall and its Ford Madox Brown murals, as well as external repairs to the roof, stonework and drains.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"216017\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.conquest.ltd.uk%2Fq-500%2F%3Futm_campaign%3DQ_500%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_source%3Dconstruction_enquirer\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Noticeboard-Advert-Con Enq (2).gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The council said \u2018significant work\u2019 is needed to address the electrics, heating, ventilation and lifts in the building.<\/p>\n<p>The client project team includes Mace which were appointed late last year as project manager and architect Purcell, which has worked up designs to refurbish the Grade I-listed landmark building.<\/p>\n<p>Lendlease\u00a0has pledged to support the project\u2019s delivery of a range of comprehensive social value commitments including\u00a0150 apprenticeships and 45 new jobs targeted at Manchester residents.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"94467\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sapabuildingsystem.com%2Fen%2Fuk%2F%3Futm_source%3DCE%26utm_medium%3DBanner%26utm_campaign%3DBrand_Awareness%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CE-Sapa-v1-1017.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Councillor\u00a0Nigel\u00a0Murphy, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council,\u00a0said: \u201cThis appointment is an important milestone in the Our Town Hall project to improve access to this icon of Manchester and safeguard it for current and future generations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere aren\u2019t many construction firms with the expertise and resources required to deliver a heritage project of this scale and complexity on behalf of the city and after a rigorous selection process we are confident that\u00a0Lendlease\u00a0offered the best overall value.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will also be millions of pounds worth of opportunities for local businesses and people to get involved in the project through this contract, including apprenticeships and other training opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neil Martin, Managing Director, Construction at Lendlease,\u00a0Europe,\u00a0said: &#8220;Manchester Town Hall is one of the city&#8217;s most recognisable and well-loved landmarks.
