{"id":1971,"date":"2019-01-11T07:28:48","date_gmt":"2019-01-11T07:28:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=1971"},"modified":"2019-01-11T07:28:48","modified_gmt":"2019-01-11T07:28:48","slug":"site-demo-wins-unpaid-christmas-wages-for-sparks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/site-demo-wins-unpaid-christmas-wages-for-sparks\/","title":{"rendered":"Site demo wins unpaid Christmas wages for sparks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A group of 20 electricians have received their withheld Christmas wages after staging a demonstration outside an east London site.<\/p>\n<p>The Unite union said the sparks were engaged by subcontractor JW Morris on a site run by contractor Acom in Hoxton for client IG1 Global Real Estate Development.<\/p>\n<p>When the workers returned from their Christmas break this week they discovered that JW Morris was no longer on the site and their wages had not been paid.<\/p>\n<p>Workers were owed more than \u00a31,000 each and Unite organised a demonstration outside the site yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Regional organiser Vince McCoy then met with Acom representatives and arrangements are now in place for all outstanding wages to be paid today.<\/p>\n<p>McCoy said: \u201cOur members faced severe financial hardship through having their wages unpaid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was only through Unite\u2019s intervention that the company was forced to do the right thing and ensure that the workers received all the money they were owed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>from Construction Enquirer http:\/\/bit.ly\/2QADQTb<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A group of 20 electricians have received their withheld Christmas wages after staging a demonstration outside an east London site.
