{"id":222,"date":"2018-11-07T07:57:12","date_gmt":"2018-11-07T07:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=222"},"modified":"2018-11-07T07:57:12","modified_gmt":"2018-11-07T07:57:12","slug":"persimmon-chief-to-leave-after-75m-bonus-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/persimmon-chief-to-leave-after-75m-bonus-controversy\/","title":{"rendered":"Persimmon chief to leave after \u00a375m bonus controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Persimmon group chief executive Jeff Fairburn is stepping down &#8220;by mutual agreement and at the request of the company.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The move follows the long-running controversy over his \u00a375m bonus package.<\/p>\n<p>The original figure was \u00a3100m but Fairburn agreed to donate \u00a325m to charity following an outcry over his remuneration deal.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"95430\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nasc.org.uk%2Fnews%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CE_NASC_FREE-GUIDANCE.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Fairburn walked-off a live TV interview with the <em>BBC<\/em> last month when the issue of his bonus package was raised.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/av\/embed\/p06p986y\/45911792\" width=\"400\" height=\"500\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Persimmon said the &#8220;distraction around his remuneration continues to have a negative impact on the reputation of the business and consequently on Jeff&#8217;s ability to continue in his role.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Current group managing director David Jenkinson will take over as interim group chief executive on December 31 while the hunt continues for a permanent successor.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"93789\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.constructionline.co.uk%2Fevents%2F\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Constructionline-MeetTheBuyer-295x245-v4.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Fairburn said: &#8220;It has been an honour to lead Persimmon through an exciting period of development.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had hoped that revealing my plans to create a charitable trust and to waive a proportion of the award would enable the Company to put the issue behind it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;However, this has not been the case and so it is clearly now in the best interests of Persimmon that I should step down.
