{"id":2304,"date":"2019-01-23T08:55:20","date_gmt":"2019-01-23T08:55:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=2304"},"modified":"2019-01-23T08:55:20","modified_gmt":"2019-01-23T08:55:20","slug":"buckingham-group-wins-site-prep-for-500m-energy-plant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/buckingham-group-wins-site-prep-for-500m-energy-plant\/","title":{"rendered":"Buckingham Group wins site prep for \u00a3500m energy plant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Buckingham Group Contracting has bagged the site preparation package for a \u00a3500m energy recovery facility in North London.<\/p>\n<p>North London Waste Authority is planning a major 10-year building programme.<\/p>\n<p>This involves construction of the new facility\u00a0in the Lee Valley in\u00a0 Edmonton to replace the existing\u00a045-year-old waste incinerator.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<p>Preparatory works will include installing works accommodation for the team on designated areas of Lee Valley Regional Park and preparing the laydown area to provide space to support construction onsite.<\/p>\n<p>The works have been scheduled to take place over the next 10 years and have been phased to allow the existing EfW facility to continue to operate during this time.<\/p>\n<p>Plans also include building a new reuse and recycling centre, as well as EcoPark House, an office block with a visitor reception centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<p>The existing plant will be demolished in 2025 when the new energy recovery facility is operational.<\/p>\n<p>When complete it will be capable of incinerating 700,000 tonnes of non-recyclable residual waste every year and produce 50 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 127,000 homes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<p>It is estimated the \u00a3500m project could save up to \u00a3900m over 27 years.<\/p>\n<p>Chair of NLWA, Cllr Clyde Loakes says, \u201cThis is a momentous time for North London Waste Authority.
