{"id":2532,"date":"2019-01-30T09:16:29","date_gmt":"2019-01-30T09:16:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=2532"},"modified":"2019-01-30T09:16:29","modified_gmt":"2019-01-30T09:16:29","slug":"two-alliances-set-for-5bn-railway-work-bonanza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/two-alliances-set-for-5bn-railway-work-bonanza\/","title":{"rendered":"Two alliances set for \u00a35bn railway work bonanza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Network Rail has named its preferred alliances to deliver track and rail system renewals and improvements in Scotland and the South of England, worth an estimated \u00a35bn.<\/p>\n<p>Colas Rail and AECOM will work with Network Rail across the south of England, while a three-way joint venture of Babcock Rail, Arup and Arcadis will deliver upgrades in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Deals are still subject to contract terms being finalised and agreed, with procurement currently operating a standstill period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"99972\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.peri.ltd.uk%2Fprojects%2Fcivil-engineering%2Fburfell-tunnel.html%23q%3Dburfell+tunnel%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/52_PERI_AD_MPU_CE_300x250px_DEC-18_AW.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The bidding process for the remaining third regional alliance &#8211; Central region &#8211; is still underway with a preferred bidder due shortly following final verification and internal approvals.<\/p>\n<p>The framework award for the next generation rail system contracts will be one of the most substantial of Network Rail\u2019s CP6 contracts to be let.<\/p>\n<div class=\"break-out-box\">\n<h3>New rail systems delivery set up<\/h3>\n<p>The 10-year contracts &#8211; an initial 5-year period with an option to extend &#8211; are now divided into three new geographically-focused alliances between Network Rail, designers and construction suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>North Alliance (Scotland route); Central Alliance (London North West, London North East and East Midlands route) and South Alliance (Anglia, South East, Wessex, Western and Wales routes).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Steve Featherstone, programme director Track, said: \u201cReaching this important milestone ensures we will have a stable foundation for the delivery of the Great Britain\u2019s core railway infrastructure for the next decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"94471\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wicona.co.uk%2Fen%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/W_CE_140818.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Our new strategy allows us to better align to the routes and ultimately, deliver for customers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jean-Pierre Bertrand, CEO of Colas Rail said: \u201cWe are extremely proud of our team being recognised for the quality of the tender submission.
