{"id":2564,"date":"2019-01-31T09:07:25","date_gmt":"2019-01-31T09:07:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=2564"},"modified":"2019-01-31T09:07:25","modified_gmt":"2019-01-31T09:07:25","slug":"transport-for-north-unveils-70bn-blueprint-for-2050","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/transport-for-north-unveils-70bn-blueprint-for-2050\/","title":{"rendered":"Transport for North unveils \u00a370bn blueprint for 2050"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A \u00a370bn plan to transform transport links across the north of England has been unveiled.<\/p>\n<p>The strategic body Transport for the North has set out an ambitious vision to invest in northern infrastructure for the next 30 years.<span id=\"more-9983\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Strategic Transport Plan could contribute towards an additional \u00a3100bn in economic growth for the North\u2019s economy \u2013 creating 850,000 extra jobs.<\/p>\n<p>It set out seven strategic transport corridors focused mainly on new or upgraded rail links as well as roads.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2019-01-31-at-08.14.42.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-285265\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2019-01-31-at-08.14.42.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"752\" height=\"1054\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Its centrepiece is Northern Powerhouse Rail, a fast rail line from Liverpool to Newcastle.<\/p>\n<p>The vision includes plans to link Liverpool to the high speed rail network in Manchester.<\/p>\n<p>A new line between Manchester and Leeds via Bradford, upgrading the line between Leeds and\u00a0Hull and the Hope Valley line between Sheffield and Manchester.<\/p>\n<p>Subject to formal approval, the<a href=\"https:\/\/transportforthenorth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/final-draft-strategic-transport-plan.pdf\"> proposals<\/a> will become Transport for the North\u2019s statutory advice to Government on what the ongoing priorities are for enhancing sustainable and inclusive connectivity across the North.<\/p>\n<p>Barry White, chief executive of Transport for the North, said:<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThe Strategic Transport Plan is a hugely important document for the North.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is our vision for a prosperous pan-Northern future and outlines how investment in transport could transform our economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Investment Programme outlines how an additional investment of just \u00a350 per person in the North, per year, could play a part in unlocking a \u00a3100bn increase in economic activity and create 850,000 new jobs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>from Construction Enquirer http:\/\/bit.ly\/2MHFvWV<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A \u00a370bn plan to transform transport links across the north of England has been unveiled.
