{"id":2730,"date":"2019-02-05T11:20:28","date_gmt":"2019-02-05T11:20:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=2730"},"modified":"2019-02-05T11:20:28","modified_gmt":"2019-02-05T11:20:28","slug":"hs2-unveils-old-oak-common-station-design","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/hs2-unveils-old-oak-common-station-design\/","title":{"rendered":"HS2 unveils Old Oak Common station design"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HS2 has unveiled the latest designs for its west London super-hub at Old Oak Common.<\/p>\n<p>The new high speed station will help kick-start the UK\u2019s largest regeneration project, which aims to transform the former railway and industrial area, into a new neighbourhood supporting up to 65,000 jobs and 25,500 new homes.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_286803\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/WPVRZuFm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-286803 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/WPVRZuFm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"5000\" height=\"2813\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Designed by WSP and architects, WilkinsonEyre, the station will be the UK\u2019s best connected rail interchange, with 250,000 people passing through every day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The high-speed platforms will be built below ground with connections to the adjoining ground level conventional station with an overbridge to Elizabeth line (Crossrail) trains, to Heathrow and central London.<\/p>\n<p>The current station design also includes the potential for provision of future services to Wales and the west of England from Old Oak Common.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2xVDrKWU.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-286805\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2xVDrKWU.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4718\" height=\"2613\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A light and airy concourse will link both halves of the station with a soaring roof inspired by the site\u2019s industrial heritage.<\/p>\n<p>The six 450m HS2 platforms will be built in a 1km long underground box, with twin tunnels taking high-speed trains east to the terminus at Euston and west to the outskirts of London.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_286807\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Old-Oak-Station-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-286807 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Old-Oak-Station-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"5000\" height=\"2575\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">An open green space will welcome visitors to Old Oak Common and provide a new focal point for the growing community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Escalators will take passengers down to the HS2 platforms, with a new public park built above them.<\/p>\n<p>Material excavated during work on the tunnels will be removed by rail from the nearby former Willesden Euroterminal depot.<\/p>\n<p>The long-term planning and development of the wider site is being led by the Mayor\u2019s Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation, which is planning a mixed-use development, with commercial, residential and leisure uses.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Botelle, HS2\u2019s Old Oak Common Project Director said:\u00a0\u201cThe arrival of HS2 has the potential to transform Old Oak Common, unlocking thousands of new jobs and homes around the UK\u2019s best connected transport hub.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Linking HS2 and Crossrail, our new station\u00a0will be a landmark piece of architecture at the heart of the development, designed around the passenger to ensure seamless, accessible and stress-free travel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want the community to be a part of the design process and we are asking for their views on the latest plans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The station will be built on the former Great Western railway depot at Old Oak Common.<\/p>\n<p>HS2 is currently working to clear the site and prepare the ground for the start of construction, later this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/pJzbbM6C.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-286804\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/pJzbbM6C.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3500\" height=\"2333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The first services are due to run in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>from Construction Enquirer http:\/\/bit.ly\/2DTGvV6<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HS2 has unveiled the latest designs for its west London super-hub at Old Oak Common.
