{"id":2818,"date":"2019-02-07T09:11:30","date_gmt":"2019-02-07T09:11:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=2818"},"modified":"2019-02-07T09:11:30","modified_gmt":"2019-02-07T09:11:30","slug":"bid-dates-for-stonehenge-and-thames-tunnels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/bid-dates-for-stonehenge-and-thames-tunnels\/","title":{"rendered":"Bid dates for Stonehenge and Thames tunnels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Highways England has revealed tender dates for its two biggest projects &#8211; the \u00a36bn Lower Thames Crossing and \u00a31.6bn A303 Stonehenge dualling.<\/p>\n<p>On the Stonehenge project, agency procurement chiefs are aiming to start tendering by the end of July.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of this, Highways England plans to hold an interactive\u00a0webinar session and industry day.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"209475\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.faset.org.uk%2Fmembers%2Ffaset-member-list%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CE_FASET-MPU_FEB19.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The project is expected to be packaged up but details have still to be confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>The overall scheme involves a new 13km dual, two-lane carriageway between Amesbury and Berwick Down.<\/p>\n<div class=\"break-out-box\">\n<h3>A303 Stonehenge scheme elements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>a bypass to the north of Winterbourne Stoke with a viaduct over the River Till,<\/li>\n<li>a new junction between the A303 and A360 to the west of and outside the World Heritage Site, replacing the existing Longbarrow Roundabout,<\/li>\n<li>a 2-mile long twin-bore tunnel through the World Heritage Site and past Stonehenge<\/li>\n<li>a new junction between the A303 and A345 at the existing Countess Roundabout.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>The \u00a35.3bn- \u00a36.bn Lower Thames Crossing project is the largest single road investment project in the UK since the M25 was completed more than 30 years ago.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"95430\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nasc.org.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NASC scrolling ads for Construction Enquirer.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>It is anticipated that initial market engagement for the enabling works and roads and tunnels packaging will start during this quarter of the year and further engagement will follow in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>A formal invitation to tender will then go out in March 2020.<\/p>\n<div class=\"break-out-box\">\n<h3>Lower Thames Crossing<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2019-02-07-at-07.19.10.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-288186\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2019-02-07-at-07.19.10.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"682\" height=\"474\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As a 14.5-mile scheme comprises two bored tunnels beneath the River Thames with interconnecting link roads to the M25, A13, and A2. At 16m in diameter, it will be one of the largest bored tunnels in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The crossing will feature three lanes in both directions with a maximum speed limit of 70 mph and is the largest single road investment project in the UK since the M25 was completed more than 30 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>At 2,4 miles, it will also be the longest road tunnel in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The roads element of the project covers the northern link roads between the tunnel and the M25, at 15,9 km in length.<\/p>\n<p>The roads element also includes the southern link roads between the tunnel and the A2 at 3 km in length.
