{"id":3170,"date":"2019-02-19T09:26:21","date_gmt":"2019-02-19T09:26:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=3170"},"modified":"2019-02-19T09:26:21","modified_gmt":"2019-02-19T09:26:21","slug":"two-portsmouth-grenfell-tower-blocks-to-be-torn-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/two-portsmouth-grenfell-tower-blocks-to-be-torn-down\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Portsmouth \u2018Grenfell\u2019 tower blocks to be torn down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two landmark Portsmouth tower blocks are set to be demolished after work to strengthen them was estimated to cost \u00a386m.<\/p>\n<p>Problems with structural concrete were uncovered when cladding was removed from the two 18-storey towers in Somerstown following the Grenfell tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>Detailed structural reports commissioned to decide what to replace the cladding with at Leamington House and Horatia House buildings revealed more deep-seated problems.<\/p>\n<p>Structural engineers Wilde Carter Clack\u00a0found the original 1965 concrete slab construction was extremely poor.<\/p>\n<p>The surface\u00a0of floor panels\u00a0in some areas appeared to have been sprayed with water or rained on and the aggregate was exposed.
