The Middlesex Street scheme, near the City&#8217;s Petticoat Lane market will\u00a0consist of nearly 1,000 beds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"93789\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.constructionline.co.uk%2Fevents%2F\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Constructionline-MTB-GIF.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Also Unite has agreed on terms for a university<span class=\"aeq\"> partnership scheme with the University of Bristol and will submit planning later this year and expect to deliver 650 beds in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"afd\"><span class=\"aeq\">Chief executive Richard Smith, said: &#8220;<\/span>We continue to see attractive development and partnership opportunities both in London and in other strong University markets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"afd\">&#8220;We plan to continue investing selectively in markets to enhance portfolio quality while maintaining discipline around target returns, and pushing for greater optionality given the uncertainty created by Brexit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"94469\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.technal.co.uk%2Fen%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/T_CE_070814.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"afd\">He said this would see Unite maintain our run rate of 1,500-2,500 new beds over the coming few years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"afd\"><span class=\"aeq\">Developing University partnerships, alongside more traditional development activity, would drive further growth over the next few years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He said that the secured development pipeline would need nearly \u00a3500m 0f capital expenditure. Unite\u00a0<span class=\"aeq\">was also in talks with around 10 universities, exploring a range of different options including further off-campus developments, stock transfer and third-party management arrangements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"142065\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=+http%3A%2F%2Fwww.plantworx.co.uk%2Fevent%2F2019%2Fexhibit%3F_toolbar%3Dexhibit%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/PWx2019-Button-Ad-300x250.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>To help fund the schemes, Unite intends to sell a further \u00a3150m of buildings this year to take advantage of the ongoing strength in the investment market.<\/p>\n<p>Smith said it was recycling its assets out of its portfolio to concentrate on the UK best universities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"afd\">Last year Unite sold 14 properties for \u00a3180m, ending its presence in Plymouth and Huddersfield.<\/p>\n<p>Smith said the student accommodation sector as a whole had attracted \u00a316bn of capital investment over the last four years.<\/p>\n<p>This has seen the new supply of accommodation increase and the total number of purpose-built beds &#8211; including University-owned beds &#8211; grow to over 600,000, or one-third of the UK&#8217;s student population.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At this level, there still remains a shortage of purpose-built accommodation compared to the numbers of first year and international students, before taking account of the increasing numbers of second and third-year students who are choosing this type of accommodation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He predicted the rate of new supply would\u00a0continue at a similar rate of around 20,000-25,000 beds in 2019, before starting to reduce.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Supply in 2020 and beyond is currently limited to a further 20,000 beds.
