{"id":3592,"date":"2019-03-01T15:27:13","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T15:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=3592"},"modified":"2019-03-01T15:27:13","modified_gmt":"2019-03-01T15:27:13","slug":"five-fit-out-firms-fined-7m-for-cover-pricing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/five-fit-out-firms-fined-7m-for-cover-pricing\/","title":{"rendered":"Five fit-out firms fined \u00a37m for cover pricing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five south east fit-out contractors have been fined a total of \u00a37m after admitting being involved in cover pricing.<\/p>\n<p>Contractors Fourfront, Loop, Coriolis, ThirdWay and Oakley agreed to pay fines\u00a0 after admitting being involved in cartel behaviour, following an investigation by the\u00a0 Competition and Markets Authority<\/p>\n<p>Each firm admitted to breaking competition law at least once during the period of 2006 \u2013 2017, in some cases on multiple occasions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"122797\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\"\/><\/a><br \/>\n<SCRIPT language='JavaScript1.1' SRC=\"https:\/\/ad.doubleclick.net\/ddm\/adj\/N6250.2036112CONSTRUCTIONENQUIRE\/B22323192.240763326;sz=300x250;ord=[timestamp];dc_lat=;dc_rdid=;tag_for_child_directed_treatment=;tfua=?\"><br \/>\n<\/SCRIPT><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>They admitted to participating in \u201ccover bidding\u201d in competitive tenders, agreeing with each other to place bids deliberately intended to lose the contract, thereby reducing the intensity of competition.<\/p>\n<p>These cover bids affected 14 contracts with a variety of customers, ranging from a City law firm to a further education college.<\/p>\n<div class=\"break-out-box\">\n<h3>Cover pricing fines<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Fourfront &#8211; trading as Area Sq and Cube Interior solutions &#8211; fined \u00a34,143,304<\/li>\n<li>Loop Interiors fined \u00a31,090,816<\/li>\n<li>Coriolis Projects fined \u00a37,735<\/li>\n<li>ThirdWay Interiors fined \u00a31,780,703<\/li>\n<li>Oakley Interiors fined \u00a358,558<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>The level of individual fines reflect companies\u2019 size and financial position, and their role in the cartel behaviour.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"165527\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.conquest.ltd.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction_enquirer%26utm_campaign%3Dconstruction_enquirer_ad+%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Conquest-Advert-White-Footer.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The investigation was triggered when\u00a0Jones Lang LaSalle, which acquired Bluu Solutions and Bluuco in 2015, uncovered a dozen instances of concern and brought information to the CMA.<\/p>\n<p>Andrea Coscelli, the CMA\u2019s chief executive, said: \u201cThe CMA is concerned it is seeing a lot of evidence of anti-competitive conduct in the construction industry, and we have already taken a number of cases in this sector.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today\u2019s fines reinforce the message that the CMA will not tolerate competition law being broken.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"95430\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nasc.org.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NASC scrolling ads for Construction Enquirer.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAs shown by the total of \u00a37m in fines agreed today, we will not turn a blind eye to illegal behaviour and we will impose penalties where we find laws have been broken.
