{"id":3752,"date":"2019-03-07T07:35:17","date_gmt":"2019-03-07T07:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=3752"},"modified":"2019-03-07T07:35:17","modified_gmt":"2019-03-07T07:35:17","slug":"crossrail-enters-intense-contractor-talks-to-set-finish-date","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/crossrail-enters-intense-contractor-talks-to-set-finish-date\/","title":{"rendered":"Crossrail enters intense contractor talks to set finish date"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Crossrail chiefs have refused to set a single fixed target date to open the seriously delayed infrastructure project in favour of a wide window for completion.<\/p>\n<p>Chief executive Mark Wild told spending watchdog MPs that the project would not be completed this year, and added he sincerely hoped it would be completed in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Wild told Public Accounts Committee MPs that his team had spent two months unravelling the knots in the &#8216;compressed&#8217; project and building a new logical sequence of work to complete the project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"124439\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=+http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hudsoncontract.co.uk%2Fliability%3Futm_source%3DConEnq%26utm_medium%3DBanner%26utm_campaign%3DFeb19%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/HC-Feb19-ConEnq-Ad.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>He said and was now starting four weeks of talks with Tier 1 contractors to verify whether the productivity assumptions on the new plan were valid and deliverable.<\/p>\n<p>Wild said that by next month Crossrail would set out its plans to complete the project within the new planned cost envelope of \u00a318bn rather than \u00a315bn as previously planned.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will present a window\u00a0 &#8211; it won&#8217;t be a definitive date because there is still a lot of uncertainty &#8211; but we will have a window when this railway will open.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"145884\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fndtg.training%2Fccdo-card%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CCDO-Banner-Loop.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;There is no opportunity to open this railway in 2019 because of the various compressions of both the\u00a0critical\u00a0path stations and the signalling systems.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We very much\u00a0want to get this done in 2020.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He added that if the stations had of held their original programme the original December 2018 opening date would have been achievable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"95430\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nasc.org.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NASC scrolling ads for Construction Enquirer.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;But when the railway\u00a0stations started to slip in 2016\/17 we should have paused for breath and resequenced the programme,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At that point, the racheting\u00a0effect of systematic risk was building up because really you want the stations finished before you put the train through the tunnel&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is now likely we will finish the railway systems before the stations,&#8221; added Wild.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"299526\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.grid-point.co.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Grid-Point-MPU-300x250-Feb-19-V1.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>from Construction Enquirer https:\/\/ift.tt\/2HjK2Oy<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Crossrail chiefs have refused to set a single fixed target date to open the seriously delayed infrastructure project in favour of a wide window for completion.
