{"id":4206,"date":"2019-03-21T08:26:30","date_gmt":"2019-03-21T08:26:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=4206"},"modified":"2019-03-21T08:26:30","modified_gmt":"2019-03-21T08:26:30","slug":"wates-trumpets-record-order-book-despite-brexit-slowdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/wates-trumpets-record-order-book-despite-brexit-slowdown\/","title":{"rendered":"Wates trumpets record order book despite Brexit slowdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Contractor Wates Group started the year with record orders up 6% despite seeing a Brexit related slowdown in mainstream construction activity in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Growth in its residential development and property services businesses helped to offset a 9% fall in construction activities over the year.<\/p>\n<p>Wates ended 2018 with stable pre-tax profits up 1% to \u00a336m on steady revenue of\u00a0 \u00a31.6bn, maintaining group operating margin at 2.4%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"299526\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.grid-point.co.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Grid-Point-MPU-300x250-Feb-19-V1.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Last year Wates invested \u00a356m in its residential developments businesses and \u00a310m in its commercial property portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>Across the group, residential development revenue rose 11% to \u00a3233m, property services turnover grew 8% to \u00a3514m, while mainstream construction slipped back to around \u00a3850m.<\/p>\n<p>The group maintained a strong cash position throughout the year, finishing 2018 with \u00a3114m and received significant backing from its existing banks and from a new bank who, together, extended facilities from \u00a360m to \u00a3120m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"163817\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.constructionenquirer.com%2Fdirectory%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/enquirer_directory_mpu.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Chief executive David Allen said after encouraging results Wates was looking forward to a strong 2019 with record orders at \u00a35.4bn.
