{"id":4298,"date":"2019-03-25T11:43:27","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T11:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=4298"},"modified":"2019-03-25T11:43:27","modified_gmt":"2019-03-25T11:43:27","slug":"450m-funding-green-light-for-midland-metro-extension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/450m-funding-green-light-for-midland-metro-extension\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a3450m funding green light for Midland Metro extension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The West Midlands Combined Authority has given the final go-ahead for the cash to finance the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Midland Metro link.<\/p>\n<p>It is the final hurdle for the long-awaited project, which will link Dudley with Birmingham, Wolverhampton and the national rail network.<\/p>\n<p>Originally the line was expected to cost \u00a3370m\u00a0 including around \u00a360 million worth of contingency, but after investigation work this is \u00a380m higher at \u00a3450m<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"158465\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.agd-equipment.co.uk%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/AGD300x250Master.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Midlands Metro Alliance, which includes civils contractors\u00a0 Colas, Barhale and Bouygues UK, will start work in the autumn.<\/p>\n<p>The Wednesbury to Brierley Hill route extension, running largely along a disused heavy rail corridor, is projected to trigger 2,000 new homes a year, almost one million square feet of commercial space<\/p>\n<p>An expected increase in the number of people paying council tax from the extra new homes that could be built would bring in an estimated \u00a3580m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"165577\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.haki.com%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer+%26utm_medium%3Ddisplay%26utm_campaign%3Dmorethan%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/HAKI MPU March 2019.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Councillor Qadar Zada, leader of Dudley Council, said: \u201cThere\u2019s no doubt this is a trailblazer project which will have a massive impact on the borough, beyond transportation. It will be the catalyst for new homes, commercial opportunities, jobs and much more for this borough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s taken a long time to get to this point, but the funding makes this scheme a reality and I am very much looking forward to seeing work start in Dudley as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Once up and running there will be up to 17 new stops along the 11 kilometres of track.
