Turnkey contractor\u00a0Hitachi Zosen Inova has got the thumbs up to start construction of a \u00a3300m energy from waste plant in\u00a0<\/strong>a former clay pit in Bedfordshire.<\/p>\n

Developer Covanta and investor Green Investment Group have reached financial close on the Rookery South Energy Recovery Facility.<\/p>\n

Over 300 jobs will be created during the 36-month construction programme.<\/p>\n

Many opportunities will also be created for the local supply chain with a commitment from the project to purchase goods and services from local companies wherever possible.<\/p>\n

Covanta will provide technical oversight during construction and will supply operations and maintenance services when the project commences operations in 2022.<\/p>\n

\n

Peter Brett Associates are consulting engineers on the project. The civils element of the project is expected to be worth up to \u00a330m.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Veolia will deliver the majority of Rookery facility’s non-recyclable waste that will generate over 60 megawatts of electricity, powering the equivalent of over 112,500 homes.<\/p>\n
