Outline planning has been granted to develop over 2,500 homes and a new commercial district next to York railway station.<\/p>\n

More than \u00a3155m in funding is in place to fund infrastructure works needed to unlock the 45ha site, which is on one of the largest brownfield city centre sites in the UK.<\/p>\n

The outline planning application for York Central includes 2,500 homes, 900,000 sq ft of commercial\u00a0and 130,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space.<\/p>\n

This will be divided into four distinct development quarters with the site split into two with a ribbon park<\/p>\n

Communities Secretary James Brokenshire will need to rubberstamp planning for the scheme because of its size.<\/p>\n

The York Central Partnership development team is made up of major landowners, Homes England and Network Rail, which will act as master developers.<\/p>\n

The National Railway Museum and City of York Council are also part of the development team.<\/p>\n

The outline planning application has been developed by Avison Young, Allies & Morrison, Arup, Gustafson, Porter + Bowman and Turner & Townsend.<\/p>\n

The council will submit plans for the first phase of infrastructure this summer with the aim to start work before the end of the year.<\/p>\n

Work is due to start on housing and offices in 2020 and run for up to 15 years.<\/p>\n
