Hundreds of workers at George Birchall Service are understood to have been sent home and not been paid today.<\/p>\n

The Enquirer<\/em> has been contacted by members of the building services maintenance teams left out-of-pocket by the move.<\/p>\n

The services arm of George Birchall employs 400 people on sites across the country.<\/p>\n

Its mechanical and electrical contracting division went into administration last September with the loss of 141 jobs.<\/p>\n

At the time director Ian Birchall said: \u201cWe would like to make it clear that our larger facilities management and maintenance business, George Birchall Service Ltd continues with business as usual and continues to employ over 400 people at its offices in Newcastle-under-Lyme and London.\u201d<\/p>\n

One worker said: “We were told this morning that we wouldn’t be paid and some people were escorted off site.<\/p>\n

“We’ve heard nothing from head office about what is going on – we’re just getting information from people on projects.”<\/p>\n

Companies House records show the latest accounts for George Birchall Service Ltd are overdue.<\/p>\n

Results for the year to March 31 2017 show the company made a pre-tax profit of \u00a3246,000 from a turnover of \u00a321.7m.<\/p>\n

The Enquirer<\/em> contacted the company this morning but the office was closed.<\/p>\n
