{"id":4526,"date":"2019-04-01T06:32:31","date_gmt":"2019-04-01T06:32:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=4526"},"modified":"2019-04-01T06:32:31","modified_gmt":"2019-04-01T06:32:31","slug":"union-claims-1m-back-pay-victory-for-hs2-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/union-claims-1m-back-pay-victory-for-hs2-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"Union claims \u00a31m back-pay victory for HS2 workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HS2 joint venture partners Costain and Skanska have pledged back-pay to hundreds of workers at the Euston site in London to settle a row about overtime pay rates and holiday entitlement.<\/p>\n<p>Construction union Unite secured a commitment from the joint venture after its labour only supplier, Bowercross Construction, was exposed for failing to pay around 200 workers on enabling works the correct overtime rates and deprived them of correct holiday entitlement.<\/p>\n<p>Unite said this meant that workers were on average being underpaid by over \u00a3100 a week. The union estimates the final back-pay bill could be over \u00a31m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"120377\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.palmersgroup.co.uk%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CE_PALMERS-MPU_JAN19.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The issue came to a head last week when Unite revealed that it had obtained multiple payslips from workers that proved they were not being paid\u00a0in accordance with the project framework agreement,\u00a0 signed\u00a0by unions and HS2 in April 2016.<\/p>\n<p>A Costain Skanska joint venture spokesperson said: \u201cCostain Skanska JV\u00a0 uses approved suppliers to provide labour to some of our sites on the HS2 enabling works programme.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The workers in question are paid via PAYE and receive full employment rights, which include a minimum of the London Living Wage, EU holiday and sick pay and welfare benefits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"102889\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.constructionskillspeople.com%2Fnvq-type%3Futm_source%3Dnewsletter%26utm_medium%3Dpartner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_content%3D20190308%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CSP-CE-300x250-03.19.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe have looked into Unite\u2019s report concerning the industry agreement rate for overtime and weekend duty, as well as holiday entitlement.
