{"id":459,"date":"2018-11-14T12:18:19","date_gmt":"2018-11-14T12:18:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=459"},"modified":"2018-11-14T12:18:19","modified_gmt":"2018-11-14T12:18:19","slug":"alun-giffiths-signs-70m-final-phase-worcester-link-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/alun-giffiths-signs-70m-final-phase-worcester-link-road\/","title":{"rendered":"Alun Giffiths signs \u00a370m final phase Worcester link road"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Worcestershire County Council has signed a design and build contract with Alun Griffiths to deliver the fourth and final phase\u00a0of the A4440 Worcester Southern Link Road.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The firm has been working on Phase 4 under an early contractor involvement contract.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The project will see the existing A4440 between Ketch and Powick roundabouts dualled, including Carrington Bridge over the Severn, a notorious bottleneck.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"145884\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fndtg.training%2Fccdo-card%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CCDO-Banner-Loop.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A new bridge will be constructed with a 1.5 metre gap from the existing bridge which would continue to be used for traffic in both directions until its counterpart was complete.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed 200m long bridge will have just three spans rather than six built before to minimise construction works within the floodplain and adjacent to the River Severn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"216019\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnoticeboard-auth.conquest.ltd.uk%2Fhome%3Futm_campaign%3Dnotice_board%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_source%3Dconstruction_enquirer\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Noticeboard-Advert-Con Enq (1).gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The three-span arrangement requires a more substantial superstructure to achieve the longer spans but also reduces construction time by seven weeks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2018-11-14-at-11.16.53.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-254372\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2018-11-14-at-11.16.53.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"686\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A new steel single span cycle and pedestrian bridge is planned over Hams Way (A4440) to the west of Powick roundabout. To achieve the required 5.7m clearance above the A4440, 125m long approach ramps are being proposed at both ends.<\/p>\n<p>Main construction works on the design and build contract are expected to start in March 2019 and take two years to complete.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-22-at-11.31.10.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-136681\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-22-at-11.31.10.png\" alt=\"A4440\" width=\"1730\" height=\"846\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Alun Griffiths picked up phase three works to reconfigure the Norton roundabout three years ago and is due to complete now.
