the \u00a360m aquatic centre to host events for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Plans for Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Smethwick were approved earlier this month allowing early works to start this summer, followed by main construction starting before the end of the year.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Wates and the council have been working in partnership to develop the construction programme and designs for the new facility under the Scape framework.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"94603\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Finfo.viewpoint.com%2FEMEAQ12019ConstructionEnquirerMPU.html%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Strife-Twitter-Bans-300x250.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>Work is expected to be completed by 2021 and will host the swimming and diving for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Designs feature a 50m Olympic-sized competition swimming pool, a 25m diving pool and a studio pool along with 1,000 spectator seats.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sandwell_Aquatic_Centre_View_from_South.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-325834 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sandwell_Aquatic_Centre_View_from_South.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3026\" height=\"1216\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Architect Robert Limbrick designed the centre with Arup as structural and building services consultant<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">The centre \u2013 to be run by Sandwell Leisure Trust \u2013 will also have two activity studios, a 12-court sports hall, a 125-station gym, a 25-station women-only gym, an indoor cycling studio, a sauna\/steam room and a caf\u00e9.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"120377\" the process of engaging a local supply chain and creating a comprehensive employment and training plan.\u00a0<br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/>John Carlin, Regional Managing Director, Wates
