{"id":5290,"date":"2019-05-02T08:12:27","date_gmt":"2019-05-02T08:12:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=5290"},"modified":"2019-05-02T08:12:27","modified_gmt":"2019-05-02T08:12:27","slug":"citb-reveals-spending-plans-for-614m-of-levy-cash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/citb-reveals-spending-plans-for-614m-of-levy-cash\/","title":{"rendered":"CITB reveals spending plans for \u00a3614m of levy cash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Construction Industry Training Board is planning a new &#8220;big, bold&#8221; careers campaign in a bid to attract a new generation of workers into construction.<\/p>\n<p>The move is part of the board&#8217;s latest three-year plan which highlights how it will spend the \u00a3614m of levy income collected between 2019\/20 to 2021\/22.<\/p>\n<p>The plan outlines the \u2018Big Six\u2019 skills challenges identified by CITB research.<\/p>\n<p>They include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>making construction an attractive career to a broader range of recruits<\/li>\n<li>developing a \u2018site-ready\u2019 workforce<\/li>\n<li>getting more construction learners to join the industry<\/li>\n<li>growing the number and diversity of apprentices<\/li>\n<li>helping smaller firms invest in the training that can transform their business<\/li>\n<li>boosting the number of assessors for vocational qualifications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The nationwide careers campaign aims to &#8220;attract and inspire many more recruits from all walks of life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It will be funded from a \u00a323m pot set aside to fund campaigns alongside the existing Go Construct initiative.<\/p>\n<p>CITB said: &#8220;This big, bold campaign will highlight the many fantastic and well-paid career opportunities available, reaching groups who have traditionally been underrepresented in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It will provide clear information on how to get into construction, including through apprenticeships and work experience, and will showcase the support available, such as higher CITB funding rates for apprenticeships.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>CITB is also looking to boost the number of &#8220;site-ready recruits&#8221; for employers\u00a0by expanding the Construction Skills Fund initiative.<\/p>\n<p>A further 20 onsite hubs will be added to the 26 currently operating to extend the scheme to Scotland, Wales and other regions in England.<\/p>\n<p>The new hubs will give thousands of local people valuable onsite experience, and deliver the work-ready candidates employers need.<\/p>\n<p>CITB said it will also increase help for smaller contractors by increasing its Skills and Training Fund.<\/p>\n<p>CITB Chief Executive Sarah Beale said: \u201cOur Business Plan identifies the most pressing skills challenges we face as an industry, and sets out the detail of how CITB will work with partners to address them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve built the plan by listening to employers and their needs, and making sure CITB is focused on a small number of really critical projects that it is best placed to deliver, whilst improving our services too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking with employers, learners and education, I\u2019m confident that this plan will help transform construction and make it fit for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For full details of how the CITB levy money will be spent over the next three years click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/documents\/businessplan\/citb-business-plan-2019-uk.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>from Construction Enquirer http:\/\/bit.ly\/2IXPCI2<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Construction Industry Training Board is planning a new &#8220;big, bold&#8221; careers campaign in a bid to attract a new generation of workers into construction.
