Salboy has finally secured full planning for Manchester\u2019s tallest tower after the city council re-approved the 76-storey Nobu-branded skyscraper following a noise impact row.<\/p>\n

The 246m tower will top the skyline with 452 flats and a 160-bed luxury hotel operated by Nobu Hospitality. A second 23-storey tower on Bridgewater Street will add 133 affordable homes.<\/p>\n

The revised decision came after late objections from music venue Rebellion and events centre Manchester Central, which raised concerns over future noise complaints from residents. Rebellion, which has hosted over 220 events since 2013, said the scheme put its future at risk.<\/p>\n

Planning officers carried out further acoustic testing before returning the scheme to committee, where councillors once again gave it the green light.<\/p>\n

Salboy\u2019s construction partner Domis is lined up to start work this year on the \u00a3350m Viadux masterplan, which will regenerate an 80,000 sq ft brownfield site near the city\u2019s business and leisure core.<\/p>\n

Salboy managing director Simon Ismail said: \u201cViadux will be home to the tallest tower outside London and a large number of high-quality affordable homes.<\/p>\n

Designed by SimpsonHaugh, the development will sit close to Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink and deliver nearly 1,000 new homes.<\/p>\n

The Nobu tower will now overtake Renaker\u2019s 213m Plot D scheme at Trinity Islands as the city\u2019s tallest once complete.<\/p>\n
