{"id":6148,"date":"2025-06-23T07:46:37","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T07:46:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=6148"},"modified":"2025-06-23T07:46:37","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T07:46:37","slug":"land-deal-unlocks-east-london-750m-health-hub-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/land-deal-unlocks-east-london-750m-health-hub-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Land deal unlocks East London \u00a3750m health hub plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"342\" data-end=\"473\">Queen Mary University of London has struck a landmark deal with the government to develop a \u00a3750m biomedical campus in Whitechapel.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"475\" data-end=\"752\">The agreement with the Department of Health and Social Care gives the university control of 80,000 sq m of land next to its existing East London campus.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"475\" data-end=\"752\">This unlocks ambitious plans to build a major life sciences centre,\u00a0one of the largest of its kind to come forward in the capital.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"475\" data-end=\"752\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"488802\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fjmclarkltd.co.uk%3Futm_source%3DDisplay%26utm_medium%3DMPU%26utm_campaign%3DConstruction%2BEnquirer%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/a4 magazine template (1200 x 1200 px) (300 x 250 px) (2).png\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"475\" data-end=\"752\">The site sits opposite the Royal London Hospital on the south side of Whitechapel Road,<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"754\" data-end=\"1086\">Five new and refurbished buildings, designed by Allies &amp; Morrison and Gibson Thornley, will form part of the scheme, which already has planning consent from Tower Hamlets.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"950\" data-end=\"1101\">Queen Mary boss Professor Colin Bailey said the landmark deal future-proofed the long-term future of the University.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"950\" data-end=\"1101\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"498213\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ardenttide.co.uk%2Fcw%2FArticle-Seamless-Transition.html%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/atl-300-250.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1328\">\u201cThis major investment gives us the opportunity, working with partners, to drive economic growth and healthcare benefits in an increasingly hyper-connected area of London within which we have deep historic roots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1330\" data-end=\"1610\">The university first acquired part of the site in 2021, which Professor Bailey said at the time was one of the biggest research investments in its history.
