Foster + Partners has landed the job to design the national memorial to Queen Elizabeth II in St James\u2019s Park.<\/p>\n

The practice beat four other finalist teams with a concept centred on a new cast-glass bridge inspired by the late Queen\u2019s wedding tiara.<\/p>\n

The masterplan includes a new Prince Philip Gate and commemorative gardens representing the United Kingdom and Commonwealth, designed as spaces for reflection and gathering.<\/p>\n

A statue of both Queen Elizabeth and Philip side by side at the Prince Philip Gate will also feature in the final scheme, which will formally launch in April 2026\u2014marking what would have been Queen Elizabeth\u2019s hundredth birthday year.<\/p>\n

Foster\u2019s team includes artist Yinka Shonibare CBE and French landscape designer Michel Desvigne. The project is being led by the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee, who praised the design\u2019s blend of formality, artistry, and technical skill.<\/p>\n

Founder Norman Foster said: \u201cOur design reflects Her Majesty\u2019s love of history and tradition, while introducing a gentle, unifying intervention that respects the park\u2019s nature and legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The project area covers parts of St James\u2019s Park near Marlborough Gate and Birdcage Walk and will replace the existing Blue Bridge.<\/p>\n

A separate legacy programme to commemorate the Queen nationwide is also in development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
