{"id":6230,"date":"2025-06-26T07:47:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T07:47:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=6230"},"modified":"2025-06-26T07:47:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-26T07:47:12","slug":"balfour-beatty-lands-833m-carbon-capture-power-plant-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/balfour-beatty-lands-833m-carbon-capture-power-plant-job\/","title":{"rendered":"Balfour Beatty lands \u00a3833m carbon capture power plant job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"850\" data-end=\"1006\">Balfour Beatty has sealed an \u00a3833m deal to build the world\u2019s first gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage at the Net Zero Teesside project.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1008\" data-end=\"1189\">The firm will deliver major onshore works for the plant as construction partner to Technip Energies, working alongside GE Vernova and Shell Catalysts &amp; Technologies.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1191\" data-end=\"1400\">The landmark scheme, backed by bp and Equinor, will see a 742MW combined-cycle gas power station constructed alongside a post-combustion carbon capture unit capable of removing up to 2m tonnes of CO\u2082 annually.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1191\" data-end=\"1400\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"124439\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hudsoncontract.co.uk%2Fhudson-freelance%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/KCD043_MPU_Freelance_555x400px_Opt1_v1b.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"1402\" data-end=\"1586\">Captured emissions will be compressed and piped offshore for storage under the North Sea via the Northern Endurance Partnership \u2013 a joint venture between bp, Equinor and TotalEnergies.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1588\" data-end=\"1837\">Leo Quinn, Balfour Beatty group chief executive, said: \u201cNet Zero Teesside Power is an ambitious scheme, forging the path towards the sustainable infrastructure of the future and positioning the UK as a leader in cleaner, greener energy consumption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1839\" data-end=\"1986\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"498213\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ardenttide.co.uk%2Fcw%2FArticle-Seamless-Transition.html%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/atl-300-250.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"1988\" data-end=\"2159\">The contract win follows a \u00a321.7bn government pledge last year to support UK carbon capture projects. Net Zero Teesside secured final investment approval in December 2024.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2161\" data-end=\"2331\">The full value of the contract will hit Balfour Beatty\u2019s order book by the end of Q2 2025.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2161\" data-end=\"2331\">Main construction is due to start later this year with completion set for 2028.
