{"id":6284,"date":"2025-06-30T07:47:01","date_gmt":"2025-06-30T07:47:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=6284"},"modified":"2025-06-30T07:47:01","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T07:47:01","slug":"3-9bn-data-centre-plan-for-ravenscraig-steelworks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/3-9bn-data-centre-plan-for-ravenscraig-steelworks\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a33.9bn data centre plan for Ravenscraig steelworks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"129\" data-end=\"314\">Plans have been unveiled to transform the former Ravenscraig steelworks into one of the UK\u2019s largest green AI data centres, unlocking a \u00a33.9bn investment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"316\" data-end=\"530\">Renewables developer Apatura is spearheading the ambitious scheme to build the 550MW data centre on 160 acres of post-industrial land east of Glasgow, powered by Scotland\u2019s growing surplus of wind and solar energy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"532\" data-end=\"687\">The project marks a major milestone in the regeneration of the former steelworks site, once home to Europe\u2019s largest hot strip mill before closing in 1992.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"532\" data-end=\"687\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"498598\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Findigomediagroup.emls.app%2Fasset%2F9%3Anational-civils-show-brochurepdf+%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NCS MPU GIF.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"933\">The proposed data centre \u2013 one of five AI-ready sites Apatura is developing across the central belt \u2013 will be built at the SevenFourEight industrial zone, adjacent to the Wishaw Deviation freight railway and with direct links to the M74 and M8.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"935\" data-end=\"1174\">It\u2019s part of Apatura\u2019s pitch to the UK Government\u2019s AI Growth Zone programme, which is identifying strategic sites to supercharge Britain\u2019s AI infrastructure.
