{"id":6482,"date":"2025-07-09T07:46:46","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T07:46:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=6482"},"modified":"2025-07-09T07:46:46","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T07:46:46","slug":"house-builders-offer-100m-to-drop-competition-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/house-builders-offer-100m-to-drop-competition-probe\/","title":{"rendered":"House builders offer \u00a3100m to drop competition probe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seven house builders have offered to pay a total of \u00a3100m following an investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority.<\/p>\n<p>The watchdog launched a probe in February 2024 after uncovering evidence some house builders may be sharing details with their competitors about sales including pricing, number of property viewings and incentives offered to buyers.<\/p>\n<p>The seven &#8211; Barratt Redrow, Bellway, Berkeley Group, Bloor Homes, Persimmon, Taylor Wimpey and Vistry &#8211; have now agreed to pay \u00a3100m which will go towards affordable housing programmes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"478038\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.creaghconcrete.co.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CE_Creagh.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>They also agreed to work with the Home Builders Federation and Homes for Scotland to develop industry-wide guidance on information sharing and stop sharing sales price details.<\/p>\n<p>The CMA will now decide whether to accept the deal with a decision due by July 24.<\/p>\n<p>If accepted, the commitments &#8220;will become legally binding and mean that it is not necessary for the CMA to decide whether the house builders broke competition law \u2013 allowing the investigation to conclude swiftly and benefits to be felt quickly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"468489\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.flanneryplanthire.com%2Fplant-operator-training%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/flannery.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Sarah Cardell, Chief Executive at the CMA, said: &#8220;Housing is a critical sector for the UK economy and housing costs are a substantial part of people\u2019s monthly spend, so it\u2019s essential that competition works well.
