The government has officially launched a new public property company to spearhead the delivery of up to 40,000 new homes on surplus railway land.<\/p>\n

As first reported by the Enquirer, Platform4 will unite the property arms of Network Rail and London & Continental Railways to fast-track regeneration of disused railway sites, kickstarting \u00a31bn of investment and creating new communities near transport hubs.<\/p>\n

Around 15,000 homes are targeted in the first five years.<\/p>\n

The new company will work with councils, housing associations and developers to turn derelict goods yards and old sidings into places to live, with green spaces, shops, hotels and commercial uses.<\/p>\n

Bek Seeley, also chair of the Euston housing delivery group, said: \u201cPlatform4 will deliver on key government priorities, creating new homes and jobs and stimulating economic growth.<\/p>\n

“Working alongside our partners and local authorities, we will create sustainable places that bring communities and customers together and leave a positive legacy for future generations.”<\/p>\n
