But the option is also on the table of scrapping the plan.<\/p>\n<p>Kier is preferred contractor to deliver the scheme, which has seen the projected building budget rise due to construction cost inflation, cladding and site access challenges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"94892\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcisrs.org.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CE_CISRS_CPD.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The project forms the centrepiece of a new \u00a3300m city centre vision from the council, which will also see\u00a0housing, offices, restaurants and retail, as well as the possibility of a new multi-use entertainment venue.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"__mcenew\" src=\"https:\/\/exeter.gov.uk\/media\/4304\/st-sidwells-point-002.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"532\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Passivhaus leisure complex St Sidwell\u2019s Point<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Details of the vision, which also includes the potential to relocate the civic centre to the site to free up space for much-needed new housing, will be discussed at the council\u2019s Leisure Complex and Bus Station Programme Board next week.<\/p>\n<div class=\"break-out-box\">\n<h3>Vision for the wider site<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/0_Visualisation-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-256615\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/0_Visualisation-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"615\" height=\"309\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The potential for a multi-purpose performance venue, with a capacity of around 1,200 seated or up to 2,500 standing<\/li>\n<li>250 housing units for sale on the current Civic Centre site, and 250 units of housing built to rent<\/li>\n<li>A ten-storey, four star hotel with 175 rooms, and a budget hotel<\/li>\n<li>Almost 40,000 sq ft of retail units fronting Sidwell Street<\/li>\n<li>The potential to house the relocated Civic Centre<\/li>\n<li>A new Office Quarter, with units over eight storeys<\/li>\n<li>More than 15,000 sq ft of food and drink outlets<\/li>\n<li>Flexible working space alongside the leisure centre<\/li>\n<li>Public realm enhancements \u2013 a new square in Paris Street and new civic space<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Chief Executive and Growth Director Karime Hassan said: \u201cThe development concept provides a mix of uses that will complement the High Street, supporting both the daytime and night time economy, and responds to the demand for housing and offices within the city centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"223316\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.4ps.co.uk%2F4ps-construction-software\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/updated version.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThis is a major and vital investment in a key site, adding almost a million square feet of additional development. Everyone knows the difficulties retail is facing.
