Living quits new-build housing as costs mount"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>United Living is pulling the plug on its \u00a3136m-turnover new build homes business taking a \u00a322m hit following a strategic review by owners Apollo Global Management.<\/p>\n<p>The contractor confirmed it will complete current housing schemes, including multi-family flats and single-family homes, but will take on no new projects.<\/p>\n<p>United Living said the decision followed a strategic review by the US private capital owners, which bought the group in 2023, to focus on stronger growth opportunities in utilities infrastructure and social housing maintenance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"561\" data-end=\"770\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"431748\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fvacukltd.co.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/VACUK_V4.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Despite the decision to wind down new build housing, turnover still jumped 17% to hit a record \u00a3718m, according to results for the holding group to the end of March 2025.<\/p>\n<p>This fast growth was powered by utility and social infrastructure divisions and contractor acquisitions, including AFECO, Pilon, GTEC, Jones Lighting and Andawes.<\/p>\n<p>Ongoing operations, excluding New Homes, delivered a 23% rise in revenue to \u00a3582m, with adjusted EBITDA climbing 33% to \u00a368.5m.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"498213\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ardenttide.co.uk%2Fcw%2FArticle-Seamless-Transition.html%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/atl-300-250.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>But \u00a333.5m of exceptional costs, led by New Homes losses alongside M&amp;A and restructuring charges, pushed United Living to a \u00a343m pre-tax loss.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the bottom line hit, United Living ended the year with year-end cash rising by over a third to \u00a370m, but carries a heavy debt load following the Apollo buyout.<\/p>\n<p>The group has since expanded its term loan by a \u00a3110m to \u00a3308m and its acquisition facility from \u00a3100m to \u00a3150m, helping to fund continued buy-and-build growth.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"478038\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.creaghconcrete.co.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/CE_Creagh.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Headcount jumped by a fifth to 1,677 staff, underlining expansion across gas, water, power and housing maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>After the year-end, the group secured a place on Eni\u2019s Liverpool Bay CCS project and bought Peter Duffy and Glenelly Infrastructure Solutions, further strengthening its utility infrastructure arm.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1808\" data-end=\"1922\">The board also paid out an \u00a388m dividend in June 2025, which will be accounted for in next year\u2019s results.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1808\" data-end=\"1922\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a
