The Welsh Government has kicked off the search for a contractor to deliver the \u00a3145m replacement of the A494 River Dee Bridge.<\/p>\n

The ageing crossing carries one of North Wales\u2019 busiest strategic routes linking Flintshire with the North West of England and is now in such poor condition it needs full replacement.<\/p>\n

Procurement will follow a two-stage early contractor involvement process under NEC4 contracts with an incentivised cost model and strong emphasis on social value.<\/p>\n

Five firms will be shortlisted from initial submissions by the end of September before being invited into a three-month tendering period. The winner will be confirmed by May 2026 to start work that summer.<\/p>\n

The new structure is scheduled to be delivered by February 2030 with the project run using a project bank account.<\/p>\n

The scheme forms part of the Welsh Government\u2019s Major Asset Renewal Programme and is being managed by consultant Mott MacDonald.<\/p>\n
