kids help redesign Wates housing site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>School children in Essex have been using their gaming skills to help improve the design of a major Wates Residential regeneration project.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils from Rainham Village Primary School spent a morning using the computer game Minecraft to explore and redesign the Napier House and New Plymouth House sites.<\/p>\n<p>The children used avatars to walk and \u2018fly\u2019 around the site\u2019s proposed designs, which have been developed by architects and masterplanners JTP.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"163817\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.constructionenquirer.com%2Fdirectory%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/enquirer_directory_mpu.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>They were then to demolish and rebuild parts of the site through the Minecraft model.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils came up with new ideas including a garden bridge, trampoline park, rooftop swimming pool, shopping mall and a water park.<\/p>\n<p>The best ideas will now be considered for inclusion in the final scheme by joint venture partners Wates Residential and Havering Council.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Noticeboard-Advert-Con Enq (1).gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>One of the pupils, Hetty Brown, said: \u201cIt\u2019s a really fun way of designing buildings that you might use when they\u2019re built and you can see what it might be like to design things for a career when you\u2019re older.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The joint venture will see an overhaul of Havering\u2019s existing council accommodation, with the current stock of 856 homes replaced with around 3,000 homes of mixed tenure over the next 12 to 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kate Ives, Development Director for Wates Residential, said: \u201cComputer games like Minecraft provide a great opportunity for young people to experience some of the most exciting elements of construction and planning.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"242816\"
