{"id":7698,"date":"2025-09-10T06:46:43","date_gmt":"2025-09-10T06:46:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=7698"},"modified":"2025-09-10T06:46:43","modified_gmt":"2025-09-10T06:46:43","slug":"london-custom-house-luxury-hotel-plan-gets-go-ahead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/london-custom-house-luxury-hotel-plan-gets-go-ahead\/","title":{"rendered":"London Custom House luxury hotel plan gets go-ahead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"262\" data-end=\"432\">The City of London Corporation has approved plans to transform the Grade I listed Custom House building on the banks of the Thames into a 180-room hotel and new public attraction.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"434\" data-end=\"596\">Developer Custom House City Limited, a subsidiary of Jastar Capital, secured approval to convert the <span class=\"normaltextrun\">former HMRC building into a landmark hotel boasting a 500 sq ft riverside frontage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"434\" data-end=\"596\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">The hotel will feature a spa, health centre and a range of food and beverage uses, opening up the historic Georgian building to the public for the first time, including access to the historic Tidewaiters and Long Rooms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"434\" data-end=\"596\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"122945\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.eca.co.uk%2Fspecify%3Futm_source%3DConstruction-Enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dweb-banner%26utm_campaign%3DSpecifier-0925\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/ECA3777-Specifier-Banner-MPU-300x250px.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"598\" data-end=\"810\">The Orms-led scheme, with conservation input from Richard Griffiths Architects, will see the early 19th century riverside building restored and repurposed after standing vacant since HMRC moved out in 2021.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"598\" data-end=\"810\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2025-09-09-at-16.46.12.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-501290\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2025-09-09-at-16.46.12.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"626\" height=\"488\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"812\" data-end=\"1039\">The project also includes the radical replacement of the riverside car park with a new landscaped public space, opening up the historic waterfront and giving Londoners access to Custom House for the first time in its history.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1041\" data-end=\"1147\">The scheme team features NDY on M&amp;E and sustainability, and Elliott Wood as structural engineer.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1149\" data-end=\"1412\">A previous hotel conversion attempt by Squire &amp; Partners for Cannon Capital Developments and Global Grange Hotels was thrown out at appeal in 2022 following strong heritage opposition.
