{"id":8164,"date":"2025-10-01T07:46:46","date_gmt":"2025-10-01T07:46:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=8164"},"modified":"2025-10-01T07:46:46","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T07:46:46","slug":"heathrow-maps-out-m25-build-plan-under-third-runway-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/heathrow-maps-out-m25-build-plan-under-third-runway-video\/","title":{"rendered":"Heathrow maps out M25 build plan under third runway \u2013 video"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Heathrow has mapped out how it will tackle one of the UK\u2019s most complex motorway upgrades while keeping traffic flowing on the country\u2019s busiest stretch of road.<\/p>\n<p>The airport\u2019s third runway scheme will need a brand-new section of the M25 to be built, complete with a tunnel and new bridges, at Junction 14 near Heathrow.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Xe53X9j6Qxw?si=sX9x6wQNBTHOArJM&amp;start=8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Rather than rebuilding in place, Heathrow will construct the new motorway 130 metres to the west of the existing road to avoid traffic chaos.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"500202\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftinyurl.com%2F58yp64j7%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bcsa 9Z3A9OUo.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This \u201coffline\u201d approach means most of the heavy works will take place away from daily traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Once complete, traffic will be switched from the old alignment onto the new during a series of planned overnight closures.<\/p>\n<p>The re-engineered stretch will be wider and safer, with new link roads to untangle weaving movements between the M25 and M4.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"474739\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbrilliantideasltd.co.uk%2Falimats%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6507-BI---Alimats-MPU---Constuction-Enquirer_01_s2.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Heathrow said the whole scheme to ease traffic congestion will be 100% privately financed.<\/p>\n<p>Alternative options \u2013 such as placing the new runway over the M4 spur \u2013 were rejected for creating greater disruption, more demolition, and exposing more homes to aircraft noise.<\/p>\n<p>They would also clash with the Heathrow Express and Elizabeth Line tunnel beneath the spur, making construction highly disruptive for both road and rail users.<\/p>\n<p>Heathrow\u2019s surface access director Sophie Chapman said: \u201cHeathrow expansion is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to upgrade our connectivity in the air and on the ground.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1435\" data-end=\"1492\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"501317\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fjagosteel.com%2Ftreadform-balustrades%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/jago Comp 1 3 (1).gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;One of the legacies of our plan will be a 100% privately financed upgrade to one of the busiest stretches of the M25. We have a tested plan for building next to the current motorway that will keep motorists on the move during construction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Building runways over motorways is not new, with similar schemes successfully delivered in Frankfurt and Paris Charles de Gaulle.
