{"id":8274,"date":"2025-10-06T08:47:01","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T08:47:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=8274"},"modified":"2025-10-06T08:47:01","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T08:47:01","slug":"hss-to-pay-private-equity-26m-to-buy-hire-arm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/hss-to-pay-private-equity-26m-to-buy-hire-arm\/","title":{"rendered":"HSS to pay private equity \u00a326m to buy hire arm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"497\" data-end=\"784\">HSS Hire has sold its entire traditional hire operations to private equity investor Endless after reporting a \u00a3130m loss this morning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"497\" data-end=\"784\">The nominal \u00a31 deal for the loss-making hire and builders&#8217; merchant service of 130 depots includes a \u00a326m payment from HSS to fund separation and restructuring.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"446\" data-end=\"654\">It marks a big change in direction for HSS which is now breaking with its asset heavy plant roots to concentrate on its ProService digital platform which hooks up suppliers with customers.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"446\" data-end=\"654\">To strengthen this new market position, HSS also today announced a \u00a335m strategic partnership with Speedy Hire.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"446\" data-end=\"654\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"128950\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.jctltd.co.uk%2Fnetwork-signup\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/JCT-Network_ConstructionEnq_MPU_300x250px-2025.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"893\" data-end=\"1247\">Under this separate deal Speedy will become principal equipment supplier to the ProService marketplace for at least five years, with an option to extend to eight.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"893\" data-end=\"1247\">Speedy will also take a near 10% stake in the newly-renamed group ProService Building Services Marketplace plc and acquire around \u00a335m of hire assets, including equipment and depot leases.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1249\" data-end=\"1664\">Around 300 hire service company staff will transfer to Speedy, while 100 Speedy employees will move to ProService to manage re-hire and resale operations routed through the marketplace.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1666\" data-end=\"1750\">Executive chairman Steve Ashmore said the deal marked a turning point for HSS: \u201cThis transformational agreement with Speedy Hire marks a major milestone in scaling our marketplace business.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1666\" data-end=\"1750\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"500731\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fsisk.com%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sisk-Construction-Enquirer-Ad-MPU-300x250px_V1.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"1666\" data-end=\"1750\">&#8220;It allows us to focus solely on our asset-light model, unlocking significant value for shareholders and customers. With increased scale and breadth, the business is now well positioned for profitable growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2301\" data-end=\"2657\">The sale and rebrand complete a multi-year restructuring that has seen HSS divest its power businesses, its Irish arm, and now its UK hire operation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2301\" data-end=\"2657\">The group will emerge as a pure-play digital marketplace, connecting contractors to a wide range of tools, materials, training, and building-services suppliers via its proprietary \u201cBrenda\u201d technology platform.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2659\" data-end=\"2930\">The Speedy partnership is expected to boost margins and earnings by replacing internal supply from the HSS hire service with a more efficient procurement model, while also expanding revenue from Speedy\u2019s re-hire, resale and training services routed through the ProService platform.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2659\" data-end=\"2930\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"493441\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dsmcls.co.uk%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSM LOOPER.GIF\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"3096\" data-end=\"3204\">Completion of all transactions is expected by 31 December 2025, subject to shareholder and CMA approval.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"210\" data-end=\"423\">This morning HSS Hire reported a \u00a3130m pre-tax loss for the 15 months to March 2025 after a major restructuring to split the group into the two separate operations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"210\" data-end=\"423\">This was largely down to a \u00a3114m impairment charge against the hire service business.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"210\" data-end=\"423\">Turnover rose to \u00a3379m from \u00a3312m due to the longer reporting period, but on a like-for-like 12-month basis sales fell 5% to \u00a3298m as the loss of the Amey contract and weaker markets hit performance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3096\" data-end=\"3204\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"128950\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.jctltd.co.uk%2Fnetwork-signup\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/JCT-Network_ConstructionEnq_MPU_300x250px-2025.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"3096\" data-end=\"3204\">\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"479429\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vpgroundforce.com%2Fgb%2Fyoursolution%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/groundforceCE MPU 300 x 250.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"3096\" data-end=\"3204\">\n<p>from Construction Enquirer https:\/\/ift.tt\/L3FazMj<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HSS Hire has sold its entire traditional hire operations to private equity investor Endless after reporting a \u00a3130m loss this morning.
