{"id":8358,"date":"2025-10-09T08:46:43","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T08:46:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=8358"},"modified":"2025-10-09T08:46:43","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T08:46:43","slug":"five-water-companies-bid-to-raise-extra-2-7bn-cut-to-556m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/five-water-companies-bid-to-raise-extra-2-7bn-cut-to-556m\/","title":{"rendered":"Five water companies bid to raise extra \u00a32.7bn cut to \u00a3556m"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five water companies have won approval for an extra \u00a3556m in funding to upgrade infrastructure and improve resilience.<\/p>\n<p>But the Competition and Markets Authority has rejected nearly 80% of the \u00a32.7bn they were seeking in an appeal against Ofwat&#8217;s price determination.<\/p>\n<p>Anglian Water, Northumbrian Water, South East Water, Southern Water and Wessex Water challenged Ofwat\u2019s 2024 price review, arguing that its five-year spending limits left them unable to meet new environmental and supply obligations.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"124439\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hudsoncontract.co.uk%2Fhudson-freelance%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/KCD043_MPU_Freelance_555x400px_Opt1_v1b.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>After a seven-month review, the CMA\u2019s independent panel ruled that only 21% of the firms\u2019 proposed increases were justified, allowing a smaller uplift to help tackle pollution, strengthen supplies and reflect higher borrowing costs.<\/p>\n<p>The decision adds an average 3% rise to customer bills for the five companies.
