{"id":8402,"date":"2025-10-13T06:46:41","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T06:46:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/?p=8402"},"modified":"2025-10-13T06:46:41","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T06:46:41","slug":"science-council-puts-800m-estate-overhaul-out-to-bid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cita.co.uk\/news\/science-council-puts-800m-estate-overhaul-out-to-bid\/","title":{"rendered":"Science council puts \u00a3800m estate overhaul out to bid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Science and Technology Facilities Council has kicked off the hunt for a long-term construction partner to help transform and decarbonise its vast science estate.<\/p>\n<p>The eight-year deal worth up to \u00a3800m forms part of UK Research &amp; Innovation\u2019s major programme to modernise, replace, and decarbonise its laboratory and research facilities nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) estate consists of around 300,000 sq m of built estate, across 128 buildings, nationally, includes world-leading research centres such as Harwell, Daresbury, and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"462809\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vpgroundforce.com%2Fgb%2Fpipe-stoppers%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/stoppers SS PTS MPU Ad 300_250px.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The new construction partner will deliver a rolling programme of capital works ranging from new-build research facilities to infrastructure renewal and backlog maintenance clearance.<\/p>\n<div class=\"break-out-box\">\n<h3>Pipeline upgrade work programme 2026-2031<\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li>Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (Oxford) &#8211; \u00a3340m<\/li>\n<li>Sci-tech Daresbury (Warrington) &#8211; \u00a3206m<\/li>\n<li>UK Astronomy Technology Centre (Edinburgh) &#8211; \u00a336m<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"495477\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Feu1.hubs.ly%2FH0m_qXT0%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/MPU_KH_OptionAvC.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>UKRI said a separate \u00a318m procurement race will also be launched for a programme management partner, with both suppliers expected to work collaboratively with the STFC estates team and wider stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>The procurement will run under a competitive flexible procedure, with a shortlist of up to five bidders to be drawn from the pre-qualification round before dialogue stages and a final competency assessment centre.<\/p>\n<p>Tender submissions close on 14 November 2025, with an award expected by December.
