But some economists have privately questioned the reliability of these figures, which have fluctuated sharply over the few years.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-mpu ad-mpu-inline\">\n<div class=\"sleeve\"><a data-ad-id=\"462809\" href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/themes\/constructionenquirer\/adclick.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vpgroundforce.com%2Fgb%2Fpipe-stoppers%2F%3Futm_source%3Dconstruction-enquirer%26utm_medium%3Dbanner%26utm_campaign%3Dconstructionenq-ads\" target=\"_blank\" onclick=\"track_ad_click(this);\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionenquirer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/stoppers SS PTS MPU Ad 300_250px.gif\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Clive Docwra, managing director of property and construction consultancy McBains, said: \u201cToday\u2019s figures reflect the subdued economic picture in the industry at present, with output falling by 0.3% following no growth in July, and underperforming against the overall economy which grew by 0.1% in August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that new work fell by 0.4% over the three months to August reflects the cautiousness by investors to commit to spending on projects while economic uncertainties persist.
