Eden Project has dramatically scaled back its planned \u00a3125m Morecambe attraction, halving the size of the venue and cutting its signature domes from four to two.<\/p>\n

Revised plans submitted to Lancaster City Council scale down the ambition after cost inflation delayed the start of the programme originally slated to complete in 2024.<\/p>\n

The new designs centre around architect Grimshaw\u2019s \u2018colony of shells\u2019 concept, retaining only two domes \u2014 the Realm of the Sun and the Realm of the Moon \u2014 linked by the Metronome arrival hall.<\/p>\n

Total internal space has dropped from 185,000 sq ft to 91,500 sq ft, the height of the main dome is lowered by 4m to 37.3 while the opening is now set for late-2028.<\/p>\n

The cutback in built space means external landscaping will be expanded across the 11-acre site with two enlarged outdoor gardens, Rhythm and All Seasons, creating more open-air event space and performance areas.<\/p>\n

Predicted visitor numbers have been slashed from 1m to 585,000 a year reducing the level of transport infrastructure work needed.<\/p>\n

Eden Project North originally secured \u00a350m of public funding to transform a derelict seafront site in Morecambe into a world-class visitor attraction.<\/p>\n

The scheme remains without a construction partner, though LK Group has carried out site investigation works on the bayfront plot.<\/p>\n
