The hunt for a\u00a0private sector development partner is now underway on the the Forth Yards site on the outskirts of Newcastle\u2019s city centre.<\/p>\n

The vacant site on the banks of the River Tyne covers 52 acres and has room for up to 2,500 homes.<\/p>\n

Land owners Homes England and Network Rail secured \u00a3122m in government funding this summer to prepare the brownfield site for construction.<\/p>\n

Procurement of a development partner is now expected to be awarded in October 2026.<\/p>\n

Pat Ritchie, Chair of Homes England, said: “Forth Yards offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of Newcastle, bringing new life to a part of the city with huge potential.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeginning the search for a development partner is a major milestone, as we move from vision to delivery at Quayside West.”<\/p>\n

Cllr Karen Kilgour, Leader of Newcastle City Council, said: \u201cThis is a generational opportunity to transform our city, bring growth to the region and help address the shortage of much-needed housing that towns and cities across the country are facing.”<\/p>\n

The \u00a3121.8m government funding package granted in August will be used for vital remediation, groundworks and infrastructure work, fixing complex land issues that have long acted as a barrier to investment at the site.<\/p>\n
